The Board of Trustees attended a daylong retreat on Saturday, Nov. 4. We began with a Shabbat morning service, led by Rabbi Berkson. Susan Zukrow, who grew up in our congregation, led the rest of the day. After working in marketing for many years, she is now is an associate director with the Strengthening Congregations team at the Union for Reform Judaism, the umbrella organization for our movement. We started by sharing with each other what we see as sources of pride in our congregation, and the key challenges we face. We then discussed how we can be at our best as a board, as a team, and as individual leaders. Our afternoon focused on changes we could make to more effectively carry out our responsibilities. We identified several action plans to guide our work moving forward. For example, we will try to engage the board as the body in strategic planning, goal setting and oversight. We will also be developing strategies to improve membership engagement, lay involvement, and leadership development.
I look forward to sharing our progress with you in future columns.
