We saw over 100 guests at CEEBJ for the Brotherhood’s Sports Night. Former Negro League pitcher Dennis Biddle entertained the audience with stories and insight. The evening was a lot of fun, and kudos to Allen Lavine for coordinating everything from the speaker, to the movie, sponsors and decorations. Thanks to all of our guests and volunteers for coming out. A touching moment came during the Q&A, when a mother of a 9 year old African-American boy, who was also in attendance, spoke about her and her son’s frustration with perceived racism holding her son back in youth baseball. She asked Dennis for some advice for her son. He looked at him and told him, “Never give up”. Touching words from a man with a lot of experience in this, and hopefully a moment and a message that we could all take away from this evening.
As baseball is in the air that means warmer weather is right around the corner. It’s not too early to start thinking about the Brotherhood’s Family Mini-Golf Outing. Last year we moved the event to Swing Time in Germantown, and wow what a fun course! This year’s event will be on Sunday, June 11. This is open to everyone, so please bring a friend or another family, and keep your eyes open for more information.
As always, we look forward to seeing you at our monthly Brotherhood meeting, the first Thursday of the month at 6 pm, for dinner and good discussion. Remember, this is open to all members of the Brotherhood, or those who are interested in learning more about the Brotherhood.
