A Note From the Cantor
Musical Happenings at CEEBJ
A hearty thank you to the members of our Children’s choir: Julia Appel, Bella Burns, Allison Dorf, Justin Dorf, Emma Kantrowitz, Leah Kantrowitz, Jordan Schumacher, Xiomara Stroot and Isabel Wertz who participated in a special Hanukkah program at the Sarah Chudnow campus on Sunday, December 18. The voices of the choir rang out sweet and loud, and all enjoyed seeing and hearing our temple youth. Kol HaKavod!!
CALLING ALL ACTORS! Please join us in performing our own “BEATLES” PURIM SPIEL on Wednesday evening, March 7. Open auditions for kids and adults will take place on Thursday, January 5, at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. For further information, contact me and look in this issue of Ha-Kol.
Friday, January 6 brings us Torahpalooza at 7:30 pm. Join us for a totally musical service geared to all ages, featuring a band made up of keyboard, sax, flute, guitar, clarinet and double bass. We will introduce some new melodies and sing beloved favorites as well. There is always plenty of dancing and singing, and a wonderful Oneg Shabbat which follows flowing with wine, beer and scrumptious desserts.
On Friday, February 3 at 7:30 pm, we will celebrate Shabbat Shira – A Shabbat in Song. This Shabbat is so named from the weekly Torah portion, B’shallach. Within this Torah portion, we read of the exodus from Egypt, Yitsiat Mizrayim, the crossing of the Reed Sea, and the subsequent outpouring of gratitude which took place as Moses, Miriam and the children of Israel sang praises to God! This “Song of the Sea,” or Shirat HaYam, is chanted in a very majestic tune and truly captures the meaning of the words.
During this service, the Adult choir will lead us in prayer. We will sing a number of old favorites as well as contemporary settings. Margaret Baldino will also chant these majestic verses of praise from the Torah, so that you can witness their beauty and power. We look forward to your participation in this service!
Wishing you a happy and healthy secular New Year,
Cantor David Barash
